The photographic project involved about 100 pizza chefs, who lent their faces to the master Toscani with the intention of spreading the fame of the Neapolitan pizza.

The wine maker Contaldi Castaldi, of Franciacorta,  with the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana organized this photo shoot dedicated to the Pizza. They relied on Oliviero Toscani , famous photographer from Milan. The photos were  displaied  at the festival of Franciacorta on 19th September 2014.

Mattozzi Restaurant Pizzeria was the setting for the shoots, the protagonist of the shoots were the 100 masters pizza chefs from the AVPN, with their faces and expression together with the ingredients typical of the Pizza such as flour, salt, basil, tomatoes and garlic.

Toscani celebrates the Pizza with his words “the essential of the pizza is the example of Italian style. With very few ingredients we are able to create an incredible product, the synthesis of our culture and our being Italian.”

The greatness of the Pizza is due to its simplicity but also to its ability to stay authentic  despite the attack of fast food and other trends. That this has happened we need to thank the AVPN and its pizza chefs, guardians of the ancient tradition. We see the opportunity to improve without ruining it.

In the days we hosted the shooting we enjoyed the company of Oliviero Toscani who with the help of Paolo Surace try to be a pizza chef.  We must to say the result was not as good the photos he took; when we asked him which was his favourite pizza the master answered,  “My favourite pizza is the Marinara, few ingredients but great taste ,but I don’t cook, so I eat” after which he took a bite of the pizza.
